FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

Burge Therapy Services does not take insurance. We provide private pay speech and language services. We prioritize high quality speech therapy with a focus on individualized treatment options based on the needs of the client. Remaining a private pay practice allows us to collaborate with each family to determine the type, length, and frequency of sessions rather than being limited to the restrictions put in place by insurance plans. Burge Therapy Services is currently an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies; however, many insurance companies will provide reimbursement for services. We are happy to provide you with the necessary paperwork for you to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance company and we also accept FSA and HSA cards for payment. These benefits vary considerably from one insurance provider to the next. Please contact your insurance company directly to discuss your plan's coverage and reimbursement for out-of-network speech and language therapy services.

HOW MUCH DO THERAPY SESSIONS COST?

Our evaluation rate is $295 for an initial evaluation involving a standardized test and full evaluation report. If you are seeking social language (pragmatics) support through a community based experience model the evaluation is $155 and includes an informal interview with the client and family to build a treatment plan. This type of service is generally for ages 13+ looking for life skills/ work learning support.

All therapy sessions are $75 flat rate for a 30 minute session with parent coaching provided after each session

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN MY INITIAL EVALUATION?

Initial evaluations typically take 45 minutes- 1 hour depending on the type of support you are seeking. These sessions involve a parent interview, interactive time with the client to obtain a language sample, standardized diagnostic assessment (or two) and some parent coaching. After your evaluation you can expect a one week turn around on a full diagnostic report provided to you by your therapist.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THERAPY?

We provide play- based speech therapy for children. This may mean interactive play to build language skills with very young children, articulation games with school- aged children or higher level thinking games for older clients. At Burge Therapy Services we want our clients to enjoy coming to therapy. Our goal is quality speech and language support wrapped up in a whole lot of fun! Each session will last about 30 minutes with direct parent coaching provided so you can continue building on learned skills at home. Parent collaboration is key to our therapy model.

WHAT ARE COMMUNITY BASED SESSIONS?

Burge Therapy Services strives to incorporate functional and practical activities into speech/language therapy to improve carryover of communication skills across all environments. Functional and practical activities vary based on the client, their interests and treatment goals established by the therapist and family. Examples of practical activities to improve communication include targeting asking and answering questions at a restaurant, problem solving in social groups of both peers and adults, and providing sufficient information during an interview. Each of these skills can be taught during a clinic session and generalized with therapeutic interventions based in the community- ie: visiting a restaurant to practice ordering food.

DO YOU PROVIDE A GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
